Kingfisher was one of the first towns to organize a base ball team in Oklahoma. The teams had a number of different nicknames including the Kings. Kingfisher’s most famous base ball resident never actually played for the team. Carl Mays moved to Kingfisher as a young boy. He played for nearby Hennessey before playing 15 years in the Major Leagues.
